THE ESP - M.H.C. 007

This latest build took over 6 months to complete, but I’m so glad to finally share it with you.  The roof line is based around a very iconic and special car… the Lotus Esprit.  I have had the Lotus Esprit on my list of possible builds for a long time now.  I knew I wanted to do something a bit wild and different with this one.  Break some of the lines and make something really aggressive and wild.  At the start of my ideation process, I like to sit and look at the base car and then sketch ideas and draw lines to see what catches.

THE ESP - M.H.C. 007

I knew I wanted to have an exposed rear end and keep everything VERY angular and flat/blocky/brutal.  I wanted to pay homage to the look and feel I got from the original era that it was created in.

Possibly one of my favorite views of The ESP is this rear 3/4 view.  It really highlights all of the key lines and features of the proportions.  I wanted to make this thing feel like a weapon or something associated with a stealth bomber.  I got incredibly inspired when shooting a Lamborghini Super Trofeo.  The amazingly harsh lines blended with an organic feel was the inspiration for this build.

From a design standpoint, the front of a vehicle is always the most challenging for me.  It has to set the tone and do or say so many things and so it’s a very important step to select what features stay there.  Since this is a race car, I chose to remove the front headlights to help in the mood to really make it feel brutal.  Military aircrafts are a constant design muse for me in this style because the raw beauty from its functionality is so pure.  In regards to rendering, I wanted to keep this version of the build pretty clean, simple, and light it well enough so that all angles could be seen.  For the shaders, you will see a subtle shift in clarity on the clear coat and hints of dark gloss carbon fiber.  I spend lots of time observing real world photographs of cars to capture include these same subtle hints of reality in my builds.
