THE LEGACY - M.H.C. 024

The Datsun 240Z holds a cherished place in our hearts. It was the first hotrod I was introduced to growing up, and the memories of barely being able to see above the door line and experiencing the scent of the glorious 6-cylinder gas eating engine as it gracefully maneuvered through corners still remain vivid. The original design's incredible shape language and line ratios make it one of the most beautiful designs of its era, which inspired us to embark on a journey to evolve its design while keeping its essence intact.

Our vision was to imagine what the original designers would do if they had access to today's advanced tools and technology. Thus, THE LEGACY build began with clear intentions and discussions, exploring the car's purpose, intended users, and main intentions. Working with Tim from Industry Garage, we were given an open brief and creative freedom to bring our best to the project.

In the 3D realm, we lay out the main form language using 3D splines, which enables us to quickly assess proportions and depth, ensuring that our 2D drawings translate well into the 3D space. This crucial step ensures that the design maintains balance and flow. From the splines, we move on to the polygonal 3D modeling process, which involves a meticulous back-and-forth process to achieve the exact intended body lines and surfaces.

Once this challenging process is complete, we hand off the final signed-off polygon files to Ivan, who skillfully translates them into print-ready CAD files. Tim then uses these CAD files for manufacturing the final molds. The Legacy 240Z build has been a dream come true for all of us on the project. We are immensely proud and grateful to have been part of its inception and to have worked with such a passionate and talented team. The project represents a true legacy and a testament to our shared passion for automotive design.
