THE META - M.H.C. 017

This one is really special because it was my first original design ever and I put my whole heart into it.

As a big fan of the ///M badge (it's actually the 50th anniversary), I wanted to use an existing BMW model but couldn’t find any good platform to match what I wanted.  I knew Ash was doing his version of the incredible raptor R, so I wanted to challenge myself and went FULL into my own design thing.

As a kid, I wanted to be a car designer,  and in a way, that feeling never left.  It’s still there hidden under layer and layers of CGI nuance.  This was the perfect opportunity to get back that childhood feeling and dream, so I dove into a blank canvas and created something totally original.

The front is always a challenge for me.  Since this is a completely new truck I got the chance to re-design all of the front and give it a brand new soul.  Using military vehicles as my muse, I wanted it to feel brutal in its pure functionality.

Starting with a blank canvas, I created something robust with aggressive sharp lines similar to a Lamborghini Countach or Aston Martin Bulldog.

It’s an interesting experience coming back to render a no-cad data model where studio lighting can show all the model flaws really quick.  So I knew that modeling my own model and rendering in a studio would be really, really hard… especially at my moderate skill level. So I worked really hard to make sure that the surface flowed in every single step.  I constantly checked it with a lighting template to be able to spot any issue, while also discovering angles and interesting shapes and shadows.
