THE RAPTOR R - M.H.C. 018
Some of you may already know that I own a gen 2 Raptor and I LOVE IT! It’s hands down one of the my most cherished vehicles I’ve owned as it does so many things wonderfully. It opens up so many new ways to experience the world and to create amazing journeys and memories. I have been wanting to build out this Raptor-R for a long time now, as I remember telling Carlos about this concept over a year ago. The main catalyst for this project was the incredible Bronco R. Ford’s design team is just doing an amazing job and the moment I saw photos of the Bronco R, I knew I had to do a Raptor R spec version. Another massive inspiration for this build was getting to work with my friend Ken Block on his amazing Trophy truck. Not only did I get to know that truck very intimately in CGI, but I also got to ride shotgun as Ken “hooned” it around in the desert… absolute bucket list. So many months later and lots of iterations, here we are! The Raptor R… an amalgamation of all the things I love about my Raptor but turned up to a level 11.

With each one of these builds, I like to try and focus on a weakness I have in my CGI skillset and work to refine it as much as possible. I am a big believer in project-based learning. So for this build, I wanted to go further down the poly modeling path and continue to work on that very complicated aspect of the CGI workflow. On top of that, Carlos and I really wanted to push ourselves with lighting and composition, finding a beautiful balance between light and dark. I am always learning so much from Carlos and our approach to our craft is so closely related; I’m so very thankful to be building these while learning and growing together. The Raptor R really captures another personal benchmark in my CGI journey.

THE RAPTOR R - M.H.C. 018
One of my favorite vantage points of the Raptor is the straight on front view. The design of the Gen 2 has such a presence. With this build, I didn’t want to lose the great lines from the Ford design team so I just pulled and reformed how the lines worked. I’m constantly trying to thread the line of reality and augmentation so I don’t lose the flow of what makes the Raptor so special. I thought it would also be fun to replace the large Ford logo that makes up the grill with some LED’s to add to its purpose. The rear is all business though, sporting all the right bits to go fast and far. Never ending fun with these builds!
