THE BAJA EDITION

When we embarked on the Zelika R project, the idea of creating a Baja version wasn't initially on our radar. However, when the concept of developing the vehicle in two distinct form factors arose, we couldn't resist the opportunity. Instantly, we envisioned the modifications and expansions required to accommodate the thrill of tearing through open terrain.

Drawing inspiration from our admiration for rally racing, we infused elements of period-correct rally car design into the Baja version. This fusion of rally and Baja styles enabled us to carve out a fresh interpretation of the Zelika.

Exploring this new function and form factor has been immensely rewarding. Leading the design process with this innovative approach has allowed us to push the boundaries of our skills and design capabilities, resulting in a truly fulfilling design challenge.

WHY BAJA?

As long-standing admirers of the Baja racing series, we've been captivated by the sheer intensity of the challenges these drivers and their machines overcome. The idea of crafting a vehicle capable of pushing through extreme terrain at breakneck speeds, enduring relentless punishment, and still persevering is nothing short of inspiring.

It's this relentless pursuit of the impossible, the determination to defy convention, and the embodiment of the spirit of motorsport that fuels our creative drive. We sought to harness this energy in our design, paying tribute to the remarkable machines that have fueled our imaginations for countless years.

In the midst of our exploration, the question arose: Why not create a Baja version? It was a natural extension of our admiration for the series, a chance to channel our passion and expertise into a homage to the iconic vehicles that have long captured our hearts and minds.

ART THAT MOVES

At Haste!, one of our core design principles is to imbue a sense of motion even in a car's static pose. It's a delicate interplay of guiding lines and negative space, choreographed to convey a narrative of speed. This philosophy is central to the essence of the Zelika B edition.

With the Zelika B, we aimed to infuse a design ethos that exudes both speed and aggression, building upon the foundation laid by the race version. What truly ignites our passion is the idea of creating "art that moves"—not just visually in pixel form, but in the very soul of the creation itself.

MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE

Complexity, at its core, is the culmination of many simple elements harmoniously combined. In crafting the design of the Zelika B, we strived to strike the perfect balance between elongated forms and tension-inducing elements.

Immersing ourselves in the intricate details, we dedicated considerable time and effort to refining every aspect, including the design and functionality of the front headlights. These modular engineering components not only serve a practical purpose but also contribute to the cohesive visual impact of the entire vehicle.

 
OUR DESIGN ETHOS

Guided by a set of rules and ratios meticulously crafted to uphold our design ethos, each decision we made was with the intent of fostering a seamless flow throughout the entirety of the Zelika B. Our dedication to precision and coherence ensured that every detail, from the curvature of the body panels to the placement of the insignia, contributed harmoniously to the overall aesthetic.

Immersing ourselves in the minutiae of our builds is where we find our greatest fulfillment. It's in the careful consideration of every contour, every line, and every material choice that we discover the true essence of our craft. The process of refining and expanding our capabilities throughout the creation of the Zelika B was a journey of growth and discovery. With each challenge we encountered, we pushed the boundaries of our creativity and craftsmanship, resulting in a final product that not only met but exceeded our expectations.

FUNCTION + FORM

In crafting the Zelika B, we delved deeply into the practicalities of its function and performance in real-world conditions. Understanding the rigorous demands placed on a Baja machine, where durability and relentless speed are paramount, we meticulously studied top-performing vehicles in the field.

Unlike our typical approach, which often prioritizes form, this design challenge called for a shift in focus. We placed a strong emphasis on function first, ensuring that every aspect of the Zelika B's design served a practical purpose. By striking a delicate balance between functionality and aesthetics, we were able to maintain the integrity of its purpose while delivering a final product of unparalleled strength and performance.

EVOLVING THE CELICA

Each phase of the project unveiled a fresh evolution in our creative journey. Our process typically commences with a meticulous examination of the vehicle's track width and chassis height, laying the groundwork for what follows. As we delve into the intricate details, each shape and component undergoes a process of refinement, gradually culminating in the revelation of the final form.

Throughout this transformative journey, we remained steadfast in our commitment to honoring the original intention of the project.
